Notice the Spring Season
A Gentle Invitation Toward Healing
Spring is a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be
At first glance, this might seem like it has nothing to do with recovery from an eating distress/eating disorders. But stay with me, it has everything to do with it.
Recovery isn’t just about food, body image, or treatment plans. It’s also about creating space for joy, peace, and connection. Often, we don’t realise just how much of our mental energy is consumed by destructive thoughts, thoughts of self-criticism, fear, shame, and doubt. These thoughts can feel so familiar that we begin to accept them as part of daily life.
But what if we could gently interrupt that pattern?
One beautiful way to begin shifting out of negativity is by tuning in to the beauty that already surrounds us, and spring is the perfect time to do just that.
The Power of Beauty in Recovery
Beauty is more than something nice to look at. It nourishes the soul. It brings us into the present moment. It reminds us that there is more to life than our struggles, that there is softness, colour, and wonder, even when we are hurting.
Spring, in particular, offers a gentle yet powerful invitation to notice beauty. With flowers blooming, trees awakening, and the air scented with blossoms, nature seems to whisper: "You are not alone. You, too, can bloom again."
And the truth is, when we are truly present , breathing in the scent of fresh flowers, feeling the sun on our skin, hearing birdsong in the distance, it’s very difficult to stay stuck in a negative mindset. In those moments, we are connected to life.
A Simple Practice
So, what if the next time a negative thought pops into your mind, you choose to gently shift your focus?
Imagine yourself lying in a field of wildflowers, breathing deeply, held by the earth, surrounded by colour and scent and peace. Imagine each petal opening as a symbol of your own unfolding recovery.
Or take it a step further: buy yourself a bouquet of flowers. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Even a small bunch of daffodils or a handful of wildflowers can be enough. Let it be an offering to yourself, a reminder that you are worthy of beauty, softness, and joy.
Place the flowers where you’ll see them often. Let them remind you that healing is happening, even if it’s quiet. That beauty is all around you, and within you.
You Deserve to Feel Good
Recovery can feel like an uphill journey at times, but moments of peace and lightness are essential to that journey. Not as a luxury, but as a need. You deserve to feel joy. You deserve to feel alive. You deserve to feel connected to something bigger and more beautiful than your challenges.
So let springtime become a part of your healing. Let each flower be a tiny affirmation. Let each scent, colour, and breeze remind you: life is still here, offering you a hand.
Today’s Affirmation: From now on, I am able to find beauty in everything.
